Géza Brunow
One of the most virtuosic of contemporary ‘outsider’ artists working in America, Géza Brunow’s lush, metaphysical paintings echo the vision quests taken by painters and writers of magical realism from Odilon Redon to Gabriel Garcia Márquez.
He is both a large-scale muralist and an accomplished miniaturist, creating intimate windows into magical worlds using different mediums including casein, water-based pigments and oils, pen and ink and scratchboard, copperplate etching and linocut printmaking.
His paintings weave together allusions and allegory with cultural commentary and elegiac poetry into a tapestry of universal human experience. His signature palette of rich and often vivid colors invokes depth and intensity of emotion. The elaborate patterns in his paintings symbolize the improvisational spontaneity and complexity of life.
